Hello there! My name is Andy and I minister full-time at Credo, a Christian group at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS). I also serve voluntarily at my local church, Riverwood Baptist Church.
I'm a husband to Tracy and dad to Athan and Charis.
I'd love for you to partner with me in bringing the gospel to UTS through financial giving.
Snapshots of what I do at Credo:
Being a registered club at uni, Credo is able to do things publicly, including running stalls, weekly outreach and Bible talks. The orientation period at the start of each semester is where we connect with most of our students.
For the past 10 years, I've helped by providing pastoral oversight of the Science faculty. Every week of the university semester, I would train and serve alongside these students.
I also help oversee the technology side of Credo. I supervise a student leader and together we mobilise a team of others to serve with our tech skills.
In June this year, I will be co-leading a mission team of 8 students to serve the homeless community at Central Station and Surry Hills. I took this picture in 2024 when I did this previously.
I really enjoy preaching God's Word to audiences big and small, and to both local and international students.
Sometimes, my ministry involves 1-1 sharing of life and faith. Pictured here is a student from China that I've shared the gospel with since 2022. He became a Christian last year and he's now serving in Credo as a Bible study leader!
I go to at least 3 camps each year with students where they can hear and be trained in the gospel. (NB: But not always in Roman garb)
And sometimes, my job is just to hang out with students :)

Frequently asked questions:
This is my 10th year at Credo (and my 9th working for AFES - my employer). I started as a volunteer in 2016, and then became a part-time AFES staff in 2017. I started working full-time from 2018.
As soon as God saved me the age of 18, I've benefited greatly from the university ministry at Sydney University. Not having been raised in a Christian family meant that I had to learn everything from scratch, including how to read the Bible for myself and how to do evangelism. University was a wonderful training ground for me, as well as for my peers at uni .
However, I never would've dreamed that I would end up working in ministry as a job! I was happily working in my professional field of web development for many years since I graduated from uni.
But with the encouragement of people who have been helped by my teaching ministry at church, I ended up doing a Master of Divinity at Sydney Missionary and Bible College before starting at Credo. I'm so thankful that God has called me to serve him in this way, and I'm excited to see how he will continue to use me in the future!
I have a number of responsibilities:
I'm a staff supporter for the student commmittee at Credo.
I oversee the Science faculty students at Credo, which includes pastoral care and running faculty-based socials and missions.
I lead multiple Bible studies every week, and I train student leaders to do the same.
I give Bible talks / sermons a number of times each semester on campus and sometimes at camps. Outside of Credo, I occasionally help with the preaching at local churches.
I regularly do personal evangelism with students, including reading the Bible 1-1 and through English practice with international students.
I have a professional background in tech, so I look after the Credo tech infrastructure, including the web hosting, email, file storage, student database, etc. I also help our student Tech team develop & maintain our website.
Good question! Credo does not charge our students money for serving them. So for me to do this as a job, I need to rely on the financial support of friends and churches that support my ministry through AFES. Money given to my AFES account gets directed towards my salary.
I work 4.5 days from Monday to Friday (excluding occasional preaching outside of Credo). During Autumn semester, I travelled into uni every day.
In 2026, my salary is based on 4.5 days of work, and my current salary is $78.3k + super. However, my support raising target is $103,178. The extra money raised is for covering ministry expenses (eg. camps and conferences, equipment, etc.), superannuation, long-service leave and other costs.
Another great question! There are many reasons for this:
AFES adjusts the staff remuneration package every year around October to align with the Consumer Price Index (CPI). This is to make sure that staff can be paid a salary that meet average Australian living standards. Eg. In 2026, to get paid for 4.5 days of work, I'm required to raise an additional $2,563 compared to 2025.
Previous supporters occasionally drop off due to a variety of reasons (eg. lost of employment, unpaid leave, etc).
I've always had a number of one-off givers. These are non-regular, so they don't always give again.
My Science students don't always get jobs straight after uni graduation. Many end up doing further study elsewhere after they leave Credo. Hence, I cannot rely on grads to keep my ministry supported.
How to support me financially:
According to the latest figures, this is where I'm at in terms of regular financial support:
At 4.5 days/week, I'm currently at 94.15% regularly supported. This means, I'm short of $502 per month. This works out to be around 10 people giving $50 per month.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at andy.tan@credo.org.au or via mobile at 0401 043 177. I also send out a monthly newsletter with prayer points so you can also support me through prayer.
May the Lord bless you for your generosity and partnership in the gospel! Let me leave you with these words from Paul's letter to the Philippians:
Philippians 4:17-20 (NIV):
17 Not that I desire your gifts; what I desire is that more be credited to your account. 18 I have received full payment and have more than enough. I am amply supplied, now that I have received from Epaphroditus the gifts you sent. They are a fragrant offering, an acceptable sacrifice, pleasing to God. 19 And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus. 20 To our God and Father be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
